sharanpoi hibari rings in garden quartz

Garden quartz holds the movement of the earth inside its crystal, sealed over immeasurable time. haku kyoto presents an exhibition by Mariko Abe of sharanpoi and Adlin Hue, and Koji Takuma of TAKUMA STUDIO — two artists who find landscapes within stone.

Crystal polishing in Kofu, Yamanashi, is said to have begun in the late Edo period, when a Kyoto craftsman, Tamaya Yasuke, brought the technique of hand polishing. Through these two artists, that craft returns to Kyoto.
